Day 11: Missoula's Farmers Market, Beersbee & Family

Andrew and I woke up to the pitter patter of little feet, laughter and the smell of coffee. We were greeted with a big good morning from Anna Marie, John and Whitney's 21 month old red headed firecracker. Andrew and I gladly accepted the coffee awaiting us. John, Andrew and myself jumped in their Subaru Forester and headed to the country store to pick up some bacon. We had a nice, large breakfast which consisted of a variety of fresh, summer fruit, bacon, scones and fresh jam.

Last night, we decided to go to Missoula's Farmers Market, about 30 minutes away. We all got dressed and headed out the door. Andrew and I were in the back of the Outback with Anna Marie. We talked, read books and held hands, just as she pleased. She always asked very nicely, "read to please, Katie, read to." How could I resist? We parked the car and walked over to Caras Park where the first market was located.

Yummy!

Missuola is a college town with a large population of younger folks. There is a large pull towards locally grown and produced items such as food, art and services. This, in turn, creates a large choice of funky shops for all of your needs. As we walked around downtown, Whitney and I decided that a girls shopping day was in order. After two farmer's markets and a craft fair, where I purchased a really cute wine tote, we headed over to the Iron Horse Brew Pub for lunch. John and Whitney treated us to a delicious lunch. We all shared wasabi edamame as an appetizer. I ordered a hefty salad and Andrew ordered a gyro burger with sweet potato fries. Then, to top it all off, we walked over to the Big Dipper for some ice cream. Andrew and John decided to hold off for a beer from the local brew pub down the street. Whitney and I both had a coffee ice cream and then we all walked over to the Kettle House Brewing Co.

Once our bellies were completely satisfied, we loaded back up and headed towards the house. Anna Marie and I did some more reading and she stared at Andrew's bald head and shiny, blue glasses, trying to figure out if she liked him or not. Or, as she likes to refer to him while she's pointing, "this one." Once we got home, we suited Anna Marie up in a bathing suit and applied some sunscreen, after a little tantrum. Whitney pulled the hose around and set up the sprinkler.

After the fun and games were finished, Anna Marie had her dinner and went to bed. John and Whitney had invited their friend Jeff over for dinner. Whitney and I prepared the sweet potatoes and other fixings for the quesadillas. It may sound odd, but it's a vegetarian dish and it was really good! We did add chicken to it however. Once Jeff arrived and we were finished with dinner, we began playing beersbee, a game my cousin turned Andrew and I on to. It consists of two PVC pipes stuck in the ground about 30 feet apart. Sitting at the top of each pipe is a empty 20oz. plastic bottle, upside down. There are two teams of two. You throw a frisbee at the bottle or pipe, trying to knock the bottle out of the pipe. If the frisbee hits the pipe and knocks it off successfully, the other team has to catch the frisbee and the bottle, or the team scores 1 point for each item not caught. The kicker if that there has to be a drink in one of your hand at all time, so you only have one hand for catching and throwing. It's quite entertaining - and harder than you may think. Whitney refused to play the game because she always get hurt...so, she made us chocolate chip cookies. We played until it got dark. Then Jeff and John got started on stories. The computer came outside and videos started streaming. Needless to say, we all had some good laughs. The moon was full and very bright tonight, so I grabbed a few pictures before going to bed.
