Day 6: A Hot Shower & Jackson, WY

I woke up with the option to use a toilet instead of a bush as a toilet - that was a nice change of scenery. We ate some cereal and then headed to McDonald’s for some coffee and free wifi. I wanted to put up another blog post and Andrew had some things with the fire academy that he needed to take care of. After we finished there, we decided to go over to the truck stop near where we slept and see how the shower process worked. We were both pretty sweaty and smelly from yesterday’s ride and we have a big night of the town planned in Jackson since we have a friend from Vero Beach that lives there. The showers were $7 each or free with a fill-up. That was an easy decision. We both showered and left the truck stop as different people. Oh the simple joys in life, how quickly you can forget how sweet they are! We only had a few more hours on the road before we arrived in Jackson. We passed more beautiful scenery. It’s a different kind of beauty than Colorado (at least the parts we visited).

On our way to Jackson, Wy.

Hoback River
We arrived in Jackson around 2:30pm where we met up our friend at and followed him to his house. We sat around for a few hours catching up and reminiscing old times in high school. Charlie went to school for film and recently got a job at Brain Farm Productions. He is working on some awesome video of a new snowboarding movie coming out in the Fall, so we watched a lot of the clips he has been working on. Pretty cool stuff! Andrew and I decided to go for a bike ride on the Elk Refuge, wanting some exercise and sight-seeing while Charlie went to the store to get some things for dinner. We rode through downtown and headed up the Elk Refuge Road for a few miles. Unfortunately, we only saw buffalo – wayyy far away. Most of the roads were closed for various reasons. We had worked up an appetite, so we turned around and headed back to Charlie’s house.

We had to stop at the famous elk arches on the way back for a quick shot. (This is for you, Pat!) We're told we must get a picture of them at night, so we have plans to go back one night before we leave.

We got back to the house and Charlie had filled his counter tops with amazing food. Buffalo strip, tenderloin, and rib eye, a huge, fresh, romaine salad, complete with garlic herb croutons, cheese, carrots, cucumbers, and tomatoes, and corn on the cob, ready for grilling. Compared to what Andrew and I have been eating over the past few days, this was the most amazing thing that had hit our lips in some time. This was Andrew’s first time eating buffalo and he loved it because Charlie had cooked it to perfection! We ate slowly and savored every bite. Soon, we had both fallen into a food coma, somewhere between consciousness and sleep. We stayed up a while later, talking about what we were going to do the follow day before we all fell asleep. For the first time in almost a week, we slept on a futon. This is simply luxury!

Sorry I didn't take a photo of the entire meal, it really was worth a photograph, but my hunger took over!
