Day 19: Leaving Glacier National Park & Driving to Oregon

We woke up and headed straight for the park, with the intention of making breakfast at the visitor center. We drove back into the park and pulled into the visitor center parking lot. We made coffee and ate cereal then headed into the building to learn a little more about the area. Andrew has a little Blackfeet tribal blood and heritage in him and there was a lot of information about this group inside so we read up on them for a while.

After we had gained a fair amount of knowledge for the day, we got back in the car and headed back towards the west entrance on the Going to the Sun Road. We stopped at Sunrift Gorge and hiked to St. Mary Falls, about 2 miles round trip. We had to stick to easy hikes today with little elevation as to not put too much strain on Andrew’s knee.

Once we were back in the truck, it only took about an hour before we were exiting where we had come in 2 days prior. We still had several hours of daylight, so we forged on towards Oregon. We stopped somewhere along the way to make dinner and then watched the sun go down as we drove across Washington.

We didn’t pull over until about 10:30pm, just outside Hood River, Oregon, our next stop. Andrew was driving, but I was fading fast and we figured we wouldn’t find another rest area before we hit the town, so we stopped at the next one coming up. We got ourselves situated and fell asleep to the sounds of cars passing on the interstate again.
